This year, Seppeltsfield is celebrating its 175th Anniversary – a very special milestone for the Estate. To honour this anniversary, Seppeltsfield went back to where it all began, inviting a small group of the finest wine experts in the world to the Estate, for a once in a lifetime tasting experience. The opportunity to visit the Centennial Cellar and taste every single vintage dating back from 1878 to 1926, spanning 49 vintages. In addition, also taste a wine from each decade, 2016 to 1926, spanning 10 vintages, to understand the ageing process of these wines. The tasting panel included the Seppeltsfield winemaking team – led by Chief Winemaker Fiona Donald, Charlie Seppelt and Julian Bermingham, along with Seppelt Family Member Bill Seppelt, former Fortified Winemaker James Godfrey and Media – Andrew Caillard MW, Nick Ryan, Max Allen, Erin Larkin, Katie Spain, David Sly, Fongyee Walker MW.
Warren Randall, Executive Chairman and Proprietor, Seppeltsfield said:
“As the current custodian of the Seppeltsfield Centennial Cellar, I am incredibly proud of the amazing legacy and vision of Benno Oscar Seppelt, son of our founders Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, dating back to 1878.
A legacy that would outspan his lifetime, a gift to his great and great-great grand-children and beyond. To remind them of their origins and traditions and to give them purpose and meaning, to participate in life and to build something of value for the next generation.
The Centennial Cellar represents ambitions of a lasting family legacy. The longest unbroken line of single vintage wines in the world, dating back to 1878. A living museum of Australian winemaking history and undoubtedly is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Seppeltsfield Estate.”
Fiona Donald, Chief Winemaker, Seppeltsfield added:
“I feel incredibly privileged to lead this incredible, unique tasting experience to honour the 175th Anniversary of Seppeltsfield.
It was a pleasure to share with the finest wine experts in the world the Centennial Cellar, the opportunity to taste 100 Summers and 100 Winters, across 49 vintages. This was something miraculous, poetic and enduring. There is no other winery in the world who can offer this.
It was also fascinating to taste a wine from each decade 2016 to 1926, where a selected young Tawny slowly becomes a rare elixir. It takes 40 years for luxurious splendor and one hundred years for glory and wisdom.
This was the first time, as custodians, we have had the chance to look at the current 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny, from the 1926 vintage, in two different tasting experiences.
1926 was a truly wonderful vintage in the Barossa, taken care of by generations of winemakers – a living symbol of optimism and graceful aging. History and harvests are marked by a cycle of disappointments, lucky escapes and triumph.
The 1926 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is truly a great of greats – an undisputed classic. Rich rancio flavours, laden with preserved fruit, gorgeous exotic spice notes and exceptional volume. The ultimate in aged wine.”
The 1926 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the 49th consecutive release from the Centennial Cellar.
The Seppeltsfield 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the inaugural wine inducted into the ‘James Halliday Hall of Fame.’
The release will be marked by the Barossa region, in a special presentation at the 2026 Barons of Barossa Declaration of Vintage taking place at the Barossa Cellar.
