Seppeltsfield Self-Guided History Experience

5. Seppelt Family Homestead

Please join me, Bill Seppelt – a fifth generation Seppelt family member, to learn about the history of the Homestead.

The Seppelt Family Homestead was originally a 4 room home built in 1851 by winery founder my great great grandfather Joseph Seppelt. It was then expanded by second generation Oscar Benno, my great grandfather and Sophie Seppelt to accommodate them and their 13 children.

Over the years many dignitaries, including members of the British Royal Family, have visited the Seppeltsfield Estate. This started in 1901, when we received a visit from the then Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, with the Duke later ascending to the throne as King George V. More recently King Charles and his wife Camilla visited the Seppeltsfield Estate in 2015, when Charles was the Prince of Wales.

The homestead was lived in by a Seppelt family member up until the 1960’s, but is now used for tours, experiences and events. The homestead showcases historic family furniture, photographs and books.

I encourage you to refer to the map on this website for the route to continue to hear the Seppeltsfield Estate history. The location of the next podcast is the Winemakers Lawn.
