Welcome to our Seppeltsfield Estate Self-Guided History Tour Experience.
Seppeltsfield was established in 1851 in the Barossa Valley by Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, just 15 years after the European settlement of South Australia. Steeped in rich Barossan heritage, the Estate is considered a true national treasure which helped shape the history of the Australian wine industry.
There are ten podcasts in the series which tell the unique history of the Seppeltsfield Estate – learn more about our self-guided tour, which includes:
The Homestead and Stables – the first buildings the Seppelt family built on the estate in 1851. The JamFactory have occupied the stables since 2013 for their Art, Craft, and Design Studios.
The Blending Cellar build started in 1866 by Joseph Seppelt, however he passed away in 1868 before he could complete it. His son, Oscar Benno Seppelt, took over the family business and completed the build in 1878.
The Distillery was established in 1877 – built so the Seppelt family could produce their own spirits (mostly brandy) for their fortified production.
The Centennial Cellar was built in 1878. Seppeltsfield has long been internationally renowned for its treasure trove of fortified wine highlighted by the Centennial Collection – the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny dating back to 1878.
The Vinegar Factory was established in 1882 and was used up until the year 2000, then was occupied by Vasse Virgin from 2017.
The 1890 Dining Hall was built to feed the hundreds of workers at Seppeltsfield during the 19th Century.
The Bottling Hall, established in 1900, is now the location for our Cellar Door & FINO Restaurant.
