The most famous of all Para Tawny bottlings, the 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny, retains the title as the only Australian wine to have ever been scored 100/100 Points by renowned critique, James Halliday. James Halliday has reviewed every vintage released since 1907, each being graced the coveted ‘perfect score’.
Winestate Magazine, on release of the 1878 vintage (in 1978), famously settled on a score of 21/20. The status of the 100 Year Old Para Tawny is also upheld in international context, with Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate nominating 100/100 Point scores for vintages 1908, 1909, 1910 and 1913.
I only give one wine 100 points in my annual Wine Companion and it is always the new vintage of the wine in question: the Seppeltsfield 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny. It is unique in the true sense of the word, for no other winery in the world can release a wine every year that is 100 years old
...Like the ’51 Grange, like a Streeton painting, a Melba recording, a Bradman bat, or a Lawson short story, it's part of the Australian ethos. A true icon...”
...How can this wine be given anything but the perfect score?...
