Seppeltsfield 1924 100 Year Old Tawny Release Announcement

Seppeltsfield was established in 1851 and is one of the most iconic wineries in Australia.

Seppeltsfield has long been internationally renowned for its treasure trove of fortifieds highlighted by the Centennial Collection – the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny dating back to 1878.

Today, Seppeltsfield celebrate the unveiling of one of Australia’s most significant wines, with the 1924 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny – seeing 100 Summers and Winters maturing in oak.

In addition, Seppeltsfield also have announced a partnership with RIEDEL, the world’s leading fine wine glass supplier, to find a glass to match the unparalleled nature of the 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny.

Fiona Donald, Chief Winemaker, Seppeltsfield said:

“As custodians of the Seppeltsfield Centennial Collection, we are proud of the amazing legacy and vision of Benno Oscar Seppelt, son of our founders Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, dating back to 1878.

The 1924 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the 47th consecutive release from the Centennial Cellar. The wine shows incredible intensity, volume and mouthfeel, remarkable freshness and length driven with blood orange acidity.

There is no doubt, fine wines of this calibre, with a century of flavours and complexity, deserve a glass of true clarity. This inspired the team to embark on a journey with RIEDEL to find the perfect glass for our 1924 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny. Our pursuit took the form of a structured tasting of a series of RIEDEL glasses with involvement from our diverse team including winemaking, viticulture, cellar door, sales and marketing”.

Mark Baulderstone, Managing Director, Australia and NZ, RIEDEL added:

“We are honoured to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Seppeltsfield to find the perfect glass for the 1924 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny.

A fantastic collaborative approach, where we landed unanimously on the RIEDEL Vinum Cognac Hennessy Glass. The finely tuned shape of this crystal glass harmonizes the aroma and taste, whilst tempering the alcohol and extract on the palate and emphasizing the bouquet. The thin tulip-shaped nature of the glass allows the wine a very small evaporation surface, to arrive on a glass with the truest clarity”.

The Centennial Collection is rated as ‘Exceptional’ in the Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine.

The release will be marked by the Barossa region, in a special presentation at the 2024 Barons of Barossa Declaration of Vintage, taking place at the Barossa Cellar on Sunday 18th February 2024.
