Please join me, Fiona Donald – the Chief Winemaker here at the Seppeltsfield Estate, to learn about the history of the Centennial Cellar.
The grand three storey building overlooking the horseshoe driveway entrance to the estate contained the first purpose-built winery on site. Building was commenced by Joseph Seppelt in 1868 and completed a decade later in 1878 by his son Oscar Benno.
Within the barrel hall storage, which is located above the original winery, is the iconic Centennial Cellar. Seppeltsfield has long been internationally renowned for its treasure trove of fortifieds highlighted by the Centennial Collection – the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage wines dating back to 1878. The Centennial Cellar is a living museum of Australian winemaking history and undoubtedly is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Seppeltsfield Estate.
